GitHub Copilot retires six models Sept 1, including Claude Opus 4.5

Gemini 3.1 Pro and Raptor Mini go too—switch to Opus 5, Sonnet 5, or 3.6 Flash. Annual solo plans keep Sonnet 4.6. GitHub also sunsets Spark.

  • Six models leave the Copilot picker Sept 1

On September 1, GitHub retires Gemini 3.1 Pro, Claude Opus 4.5 and 4.6, Claude Sonnet 4.5 and 4.6, and Raptor Mini across every Copilot surface. Move to Opus 4.7/4.8/5, Sonnet 5, Gemini 3.6 Flash, or MAI-Code-1-Flash—and update any pinned model configs before the cutoff so agents don't break.

  • Annual solo plans keep a Sonnet 4.6 lifeline

One carve-out: Claude Sonnet 4.6 stays available to individual Copilot subscribers on annual plans, so they retain a Sonnet option. Monthly seats and enterprises lose it and must jump to Sonnet 5.

  • GitHub Spark stops taking new apps

Separately, Spark on github.com stopped accepting new users and app creation on August 4; existing builders have until August 31 to export their code via the workbench's 'Create repository.' Apps using the llm() helper also need a new inference provider, since GitHub Models retired July 30.
