Grok Imagine Image 2.0 ships region editing, ranks #2 in Arena
The catch for builders: xAI's own API is still 'coming soon' with no date, so a Vercel AI Gateway preview is the only way to call the model in code right now.

Magic wand, five references, nine ratios
Region-level edits land via a magic-wand tool with segmentation and background-to-transparency, plus up to five reference images in a single generation. Smart Resize spans nine aspect ratios from a 1:2 tall banner to a 2:1 wide, and small text now renders sharply. Live as Quality Mode on grok.com/imagine and the iOS and Android apps.

Image 2.0 ranks #2 in the world on both the Arena text-to-image and image-edit leaderboards, trailing only OpenAI's gpt-image-2. For designers that puts near-frontier generation and editing one tab away — and free to try inside Grok.
No native API yet — Vercel is the workaround
xAI says a developer API is 'coming soon' with no date, so you can't wire the model into your own app directly yet. The one code path today is the Grok Imagine Image 2.0 preview Vercel added to its AI Gateway on Aug 8, callable next to 200+ models with no token markup.
