  • Four models gone Oct 2 — repin now

GitHub retires Claude Opus 4.7, Gemini 3.5 and 3.6 Flash, and Kimi K2.7 Code across Chat, inline edits, ask/agent modes, and completions. Switch your pinned model to Opus 5, Gemini 3.8 Flash, or Kimi K3 before the cutoff or you'll be bounced to a fallback mid-task.

  • Business seats now bill upfront

New Copilot Business and Enterprise seats must be paid before anyone gets access, and existing customers move to prepaid billing on Oct 1. List prices are unchanged, but revoking a seat mid-cycle earns no refund — size your seat count before the cycle starts.

  • Chat history: 28 days to your account's lifetime

The unified Copilot experience (no earlier than Sep 28) folds web and mobile chat into the cloud agent and extends chat retention from 28 days to your account's lifetime, on by default. Opting out drops Copilot on web and mobile entirely.

  • Code review defaults jump to 'Balanced'

From Sep 28, Copilot code review's default effort moves from Lite to Balanced on every repo using default settings — deeper reviews, but more tokens burned per PR. Pin Lite in settings if you were relying on the cheaper pass.

  • Shipped this week: Dependabot drops the PAT dance

Dependabot now reads private GitHub Packages registries automatically once access is granted — no more personal access tokens to mint and rotate. Also live: enterprise-managed sandboxes and cross-file next-edit in JetBrains, plus a rebuilt help.github.com with Copilot-powered search.
