The number that stops moving
Anthropic says Sonnet 5's launch rate — $2 per million input tokens, $10 per million output — is now permanent, not a promo expiring Aug 31. The $3/$15 standard pricing that was slated for Sept 1 is off the table.
You just dodged a 50% bill hike
Every cost projection past Aug 31 assumed input and output both jumping 50%. That migrate-or-eat-the-cost decision is now moot — leave your Sonnet 5 math at $2/$10 and delete the calendar reminder.
Now permanently cheaper than the model it replaced
Sonnet 4.6 sits at $3/$15. Freezing Sonnet 5 at $2/$10 makes the newer, stronger model a third cheaper than its predecessor for good — one less reason to keep older Sonnet calls in your stack.
