opencode 2.2: build desktop plugins, plus image and decision APIs

SST's agent opens a plugin ecosystem and media APIs, but the 2.x jump breaks SDK imports and the GitHub Action - and DeepSeek's free web tools end Oct 31.

  • Desktop plugins and new agent APIs land

opencode 2.2.0 lets you create, install and share desktop plugins (experimental), and the @opencode/ai package gains image- and decision-generation APIs plus a session media API with content-addressed blob storage. Extend the desktop app and wire generated images or structured decisions straight into plugins, with no bolt-on service.

  • Clear these breaking changes before upgrading

Three things bite on the 2.x jump: the @opencode/ai root is now the Promise API (Effect moved to /effect, /promise is gone), the OpenCode GitHub Action is removed, and TUI plugins must move to OpenTUI 0.7 or they won't install. Updates stay on the 1.x line unless you opt in, so pin 1.x until you've migrated your CI and plugins.

  • DeepSeek starts charging for its web tools Oct 31

DeepSeek's server-side Search and Fetch calls - free today through DeepSeek Harness, Claude Code and Codex - begin billing at 16:00 UTC on Oct 31 (00:00 Beijing, Nov 1) at $0.75 per 1,000 successful calls, 5 QPS per endpoint. If your agent leans on DeepSeek's built-in browsing, budget for it or swap in your own search before the cutoff.

  • Factory AI's droid tightens its security defaults

Factory's droid CLI (v0.250-0.251, Oct 27) now makes you re-trust a folder when you resume a session from a new one, and its browser panel denies device access by default; admins can also restrict plugins to registered marketplaces. Small defaults, but they shrink the blast radius of an agent let loose in your repo.
