Claude now keeps one memory across chat and Cowork
Context from chat now follows you into Cowork agents — with an editable topic list, sensitive subjects off by default, and admin gates for teams.

One memory, both surfaces
As of today the memory Claude uses in chat is the same one it uses in Cowork, so project details, preferences, and the names you give things carry over with no re-briefing. A Cowork agent session now starts already knowing the context you set up in a chat.
It saves as you chat — and you can edit the files
Claude now writes topics to memory mid-conversation instead of waiting for it to end, and everything it keeps is a readable list of files under Topics in Memory settings that you can open, edit, or delete. You can pause memory or reset it entirely at any time.
Sensitive topics are off by default
By default Claude won't store health, race, ethnicity, religion, politics, or gender identity; a setting lets you opt in and notifies you each time one is saved. Regardless of that setting, SSNs, government IDs, criminal history, and immigration status are never stored.
On for you, off for your team until an admin says so
Memory is enabled by default on Free, Pro, and Max across web, desktop, and mobile. On Team and Enterprise it's admin-controlled and stays off until an admin turns it on, so shared workspaces don't silently start remembering.
