GitHub Copilot to keep your chat history for the account's lifetime
A bundle of policy changes lands Sept 28–Oct 1: unified chat surfaces, a costlier code-review default, and seats that bill before anyone gets access.

Chat history, now kept for good
Copilot Chat on github.com and GitHub Mobile will be retained for the life of your account instead of the current 28 days — part of a unified experience taking effect no earlier than Sept 28. Opting out means losing Copilot on github.com and Mobile entirely.
Three surfaces collapse into one
Copilot Chat on github.com, GitHub Mobile, and the cloud coding agent merge into a single experience under one policy, and the cloud agent moves onto GitHub's Sandbox for faster runs. If you lean on separate per-surface policies, that option disappears on Sept 28.
Code review quietly gets pricier
On Sept 28 the default effort for Copilot code review flips from 'Lite' to 'Balanced,' which spends more premium requests on every review. Want the cheaper setting? You have to switch it back manually before the deadline.
Seats must be paid before access
From Sept 1 for new signups and Oct 1 for existing customers, every Copilot Business and Enterprise seat must be paid up front before that user can sign in, with no prorated refunds when you revoke a seat. List prices are unchanged, but provisioning just got less forgiving.
