FLUX 3 Image Klein: a 5.6B open image model that runs on 8GB
Native 4K, bounding-box layout and pixel-perfect edits, with day-one ComfyUI — free commercial use under $5M revenue. Plus: AI breaks a 1967 fusion conjecture.

Frontier-grade image gen, fully local
FLUX 3 Image Klein is 5.6B open weights that runs on a single RTX card with as little as 8GB VRAM — about 4s for a 1MP image on a 5090, under 9s on a 4070. It does native 4K and up to 10 reference images; grab the base (fine-tunable) or distilled checkpoint from Hugging Face. No API bill, no rate limit.
Build this weekend: bounding-box layout + pixel-perfect edits
Place or confine elements with canvas-relative bounding boxes, while unedited pixels stay byte-identical. ComfyUI shipped day-one support (PR #17064, four templates), plus Diffusers, TensorRT and vLLM — enough to wire a local design tool or batch editor over a weekend.
The catch: free only under $5M revenue
The FLUX Kommunity License gives free commercial use to individuals and companies under $5M annual revenue; bigger shops need a self-host license or BFL's API (from $0.009 per 1K images). Revenue is counted gross and annualized, affiliates included — check before you ship.
Research radar: AI breaks a 1967 fusion conjecture
TheoPhysEval reports GPT-6 Astra Pro, Gemini 4 and Claude Opus 5.5/Sonnet 5.5 produced hand-verified counterexamples to Grad's 1967 stellarator conjecture — all 50 problems for about $116 at API rates (arXiv 2609.24739).
