Pinned a model in your CI or agent config? It may soon fall back — Gemini 2.5 Pro is already gone, admins get team-level policy, and a new Copilot CLI shipped.

Six models gone September 1
Gemini 3.1 Pro, Claude Opus 4.5 and 4.6, Claude Sonnet 4.5 and 4.6, and Raptor Mini all retire Sept 1 — swap to Opus 4.7/4.8/5, Sonnet 5, Gemini 3.6 Flash, or MAI-Code-1-Flash. Sonnet 4.6 stays only for individual annual subscribers, so anything pinning these IDs falls back to a default unless you update it.
New models now opt-out, not opt-in
From Aug 26, GitHub auto-enables newly GA-d models for Copilot Business and Enterprise unless an admin opts out. Your org’s available-model list can now shift without anyone flipping a switch — worth a look if you gate models for cost or compliance.
Gemini 2.5 Pro and 3 Flash already pulled
Both were deprecated across every Copilot surface on July 31. If your prompts, extensions, or scripts still name those model IDs, they’ve quietly been failing over to defaults — check any automation now.
Admins get per-team model policy
A new public-preview Enterprise Teams policy lets admins set a baseline model set for the whole org, then grant extra models to specific teams. It’s the first time Copilot model access can be scoped per-team instead of all-or-nothing.
Copilot CLI v1.0.78 lands
The Aug 3 CLI adds /permissions approval-mode switching, faster session resume on long transcripts, sandbox cache access by default, and smoother MCP tool handling — small quality-of-life wins for terminal-first agent runs.
