  • Auto mode stops billing you to route

The classifier that picks a model per turn now runs server-side by default for the Claude API, Enterprise, and Bedrock/Vertex/Foundry/gateway users, so you no longer pay token overhead just to select a model. Opt back to the local classifier with CLAUDE_CODE_AUTO_MODE_SERVER=0 on Bedrock/Vertex/Foundry/gateways.

  • VSCode now shows cost and tokens

The VS Code extension surfaces cost and token usage inline, adds a copy-response button, lists background shells in the agent map, and adds a sign-out row — so you can watch spend without leaving the editor.

  • Seal the gateway's egress path

Set CLAUDE_GATEWAY_PROXY_IS_EGRESS_BOUNDARY=1 to force forward-proxy-only egress, and attach a static headers: map to upstream configs — cleaner, tighter routing when Claude Code sits behind a corporate proxy.

  • AGENTS.md is now editable in /config

Following 2.1.277, projects with no CLAUDE.md read AGENTS.md — and 2.1.278 lets you edit those project instructions straight from /config instead of hand-editing the file.
