Open-weight world models land: run Matrix-Game 4.0 on one RTX 5090
Tencent's HY-World 1.5 and the open Matrix-Game 4.0 bring real-time interactive worlds to your own GPU, just as DeepMind's gated Genie 4 opens a waitlist.

Matrix-Game 4.0: real-time worlds on a single RTX 5090
The newly open-sourced Matrix-Game 4.0 does real-time neural rendering of interactive game worlds on one RTX 5090. It's a genuine build-this-weekend unlock: the engine owns the game logic and the model just paints the frames.
Tencent's HY-World 1.5 'WorldPlay' hits Hugging Face at 24fps
Tencent released HY-World 1.5 with open weights on Hugging Face, running playable worlds at 24 fps. Pair it with Matrix-Game 4.0 and you have two self-hostable world models to prototype sims and game levels locally, no waitlist.
DeepMind's Genie 4 is the quality leader, but gated
Genie 4 (announced Oct 27) renders real-time worlds with native audio that stay consistent for about two minutes, the clear quality leader, but it's a trusted-tester preview. It's 'coming soon' to AI Ultra ($250/mo) and Gemini API early-access partners; the DeepMind waitlist is free to join.
No GPU? World Labs' Marble makes 3D worlds free
Rather not self-host? World Labs' Marble has a free tier (7,000 credits, up to 4 generations) that outputs navigable 3D worlds instead of real-time video, a fast way to test the concept before you commit a GPU.
Know the limits before you ship
Every world model here still drifts over longer sessions and mangles legible text and precise spatial layout; Google's current Project Genie runs 720p at ~24fps in ~60-second clips. Great for level sketches and sims, not finished game output yet.
