GitHub deprecates Gemini 2.5 Pro and Gemini 3 Flash across every Copilot surface — VS Code, Visual Studio, JetBrains, Xcode and github.com — on July 31, 2026. After that, requests to those two models stop resolving.
Your one-to-one swaps
Point Gemini 2.5 Pro workflows at Gemini 3.1 Pro, and Gemini 3 Flash at Gemini 3.5 Flash. If you already switched to Gemini 3.6 Flash — the newest Flash, rolled out July 21 — you are ahead of the cutoff.
Admins: flip the policy or the team loses Gemini
On Business and Enterprise, org admins must enable the replacement models in Copilot policy settings before developers can pick them. Confirm the swap landed via the model selector in VS Code and on github.com.
Your IDE may not warn you
GitHub closed a bug report that the JetBrains plugin shows no deprecation marker next to the doomed Gemini models, so some devs get zero in-editor heads-up. Don't wait for a warning triangle — switch your model manually before tomorrow.
