One native app for chat, Work and Codex
The preview folds ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work and Codex into a single native window — a workspace for files, browser workflows and running Codex agents right beside your chats, instead of a browser tab or a CLI-only setup.
The distros and packages it ships as
Validated on Ubuntu 24.04 and 26.04 LTS, Debian 13, and Fedora 43/44, with both x64 and ARM64 .deb and .rpm builds. Downstream distros built on those bases should run it too.
Rough edges before you install
It's a closed-source preview: Codex CLI projects don't appear in the app's project list (they show up as standalone chats), there's no native Arch or NixOS package, and Wayland IME (Fcitx5 for Japanese/Korean) needs command-line flags.
A month behind Anthropic
Claude's Linux desktop app landed roughly a month earlier with wider reach (Ubuntu 22.04+, Debian 12+). With this catch-up, both ChatGPT and Codex now span every major desktop OS.
