ChatGPT Health connects to Epic records, adds a public-data plugin
Read-only access spans a 325M-patient Epic network; a new plugin cites PubMed, ClinicalTrials.gov and RxNorm — individuals get the plugin, orgs the EHR link.

Epic's 325M-patient network, read-only
ChatGPT Health can now pull appointment notes, labs, meds, and specialist documentation from Epic and summarize them — read-only, so the model never writes back to the chart. Clinicians run pre-visit reviews and build patient timelines without leaving the record.
A public-data plugin, cited and versioned
Separately, a Healthcare Public Data plugin fetches specific records from PubMed, ClinicalTrials.gov, RxNorm, DailyMed, and CMS Coverage in one call — trial eligibility, drug identifiers, coverage policy — with source citations. It's the one piece individual U.S. clinicians can turn on without any Epic tie-in.
Where the line sits — and what's missing
ChatGPT Health has been open to all U.S. users since July; the Epic link needs an organization with a Business Associate Agreement, while the public-data plugin is available to individual clinicians. No developer API or SDK was announced — this is a product feature, not a platform to build on.
The 99.1% 'safe' number, and the asterisk
OpenAI says physicians rated 99.1% of responses safe across 27 clinical use cases and 4,363 ratings, with 93%+ 'good or better' accuracy on the connected sources. In clinical work even a sub-1% unsafe rate can cause real harm — treat outputs as a draft to verify, not a decision.
