Six models, gone in a week
On September 1, GitHub Copilot retires Gemini 3.1 Pro, Claude Opus 4.5 and 4.6, Claude Sonnet 4.5 and 4.6, and Raptor Mini. If your IDE, chat, or CI flow pins one of these by name, it stops resolving that day, so switch the model before then rather than after.
The swap map GitHub handed you
GitHub named the replacements outright: Opus 4.5/4.6 map to Opus 4.7, 4.8, or 5; Sonnet 4.5 to Sonnet 5; Gemini 3.1 Pro to Gemini 3.6 Flash; Raptor Mini to MAI-Code-1-Flash. Enterprise admins should enable the successors in Copilot policies now, or the team lands on an empty model picker.
One plan keeps Sonnet 4.6
The sole exception: individual Copilot subscribers on annual plans keep Claude Sonnet 4.6, so they still have a Sonnet option. Monthly, Business, and Enterprise users all move to Sonnet 5. Check your tier before you assume 4.6 sticks around.
