Nvidia gets the 18M-developer hub and 3M+ models builders pull daily. Huang says Nvidia GPUs won't be required — critics doubt a chipmaker stays neutral.

The deal, in numbers
Nvidia is paying about $12.93B — roughly $11.9B to existing investors plus up to $1B in employee retention — for a company last valued at $4.5B in 2023. What it buys: 18M developers, 3M+ hosted models, 500K datasets and 200K+ companies. Announced Sept 3.
Huang's pledge: no Nvidia GPU required
Jensen Huang says Hugging Face "will remain an open platform" with continued multi-cloud and multi-accelerator support — and, the line that matters for your stack, that "NVIDIA compute will not be required to build on or deploy through Hugging Face." Your existing non-Nvidia pipeline keeps working, per the promise.
The neutrality question to watch
Qwen and other Chinese open models top the Hub's download charts, and Nvidia hasn't said who decides hosting if US policy shifts. Analysts warn a GPU vendor has every incentive to steer inference defaults toward its own silicon. Watch the deployment and pricing defaults, not the press release.
