OpenAI pulls its models from Cursor on Nov 12 after SpaceX takeover
Devs have until then to move GPT-5 work off Cursor — your own API key, Codex, or a gateway. It's ~5% of Cursor traffic; Anthropic is piling on Claude compute.

The cutoff, dated
OpenAI is winding down the contract that serves its models inside Cursor, with access ending Nov 12, 2026. The trigger: SpaceX closed a ~$60B Cursor acquisition on Aug 14, and OpenAI says it “cannot be confident SpaceX will use our technology within our terms of service.”
How little it actually touches you
If you run GPT-5.x in Cursor, you have about ten weeks. Cursor CEO Michael Truell pegs OpenAI models at roughly 5% of Cursor traffic — most work already routes through Claude — so for the majority this is small on paper, larger in principle.
Three ways to keep GPT models after Nov 12
OpenAI's own workaround: bring your own OpenAI API key at standard API pricing, run the Codex IDE extension with a ChatGPT plan or key, or route through a gateway like Amazon Bedrock or Azure. Wire one up before the deadline, not the morning after.
Anthropic leans into the gap
Anthropic's Tom Brown says Cursor has been a trusted partner since Sonnet 3.5 and it will “continue to increase compute to support Claude models in Cursor.” If you're already on Claude there, nothing breaks — and headroom is going up.
