Assistants API goes dark August 26
OpenAI is shutting off the Assistants API on Aug 26, 2026; the migration path is the Responses API plus the newer Conversations API for thread state. If you still run Assistants-based agents, threads, or file-search, you have about three weeks to port before those calls start failing.
OpenAI's fall retirement calendar
Pinned to a snapshot? gpt-3.5-turbo-0125, gpt-4-0613, gpt-4o-2024-05-13 and o1 variants shut off Oct 23; gpt-5-2025-08-07, o3-2025-04-16 and o3-pro-2025-06-10 go Dec 11. OpenAI points everyone to gpt-5.6-sol / gpt-5.6-terra, with pro behavior via reasoning.mode: pro.
Realtime and audio legacy models sunset Jan 20
gpt-realtime, gpt-audio, gpt-4o-audio and gpt-4o-realtime retire Jan 20, 2027; the replacements are gpt-realtime-2.1 and gpt-audio-1.5 (plus mini variants). If you ship voice, wiring the new model names in now avoids a scramble later.
Copilot drops Gemini 2.5 Pro and Gemini 3 Flash
As of Jul 31, GitHub deprecated Gemini 2.5 Pro and Gemini 3 Flash across all Copilot experiences, steering users to Gemini 3.1 Pro or Gemini 3.5 Flash. Check your Copilot model selector and workflows before a pinned default quietly disappears.
