A federal open-weight pipeline, not a one-off
DOE's Genesis Mission opens a standing program for open-weight science models — recurring quarterly contribution rounds, not a single drop. It's the first US government-backed open-weight AI effort, led by Under Secretary for Science Darío Gil.
Genesis-Science-1 is coming, built with Arcee
The debut model targets HPC code modernization, simulation campaigns, and materials science, and will ship with weights, a technical report, and public workbench artifacts. Arcee — maker of the 400B sparse-MoE Trinity Large — is the first industry partner; no weights or benchmarks are out yet.
Two tracks, deadlines Aug 14 and 25
Apply by Aug 14 to contribute pretraining data, or by Aug 25 for fine-tuning and post-training tasks; rounds then repeat every three months. Applications need only metadata — no data transfer until you're selected.
What contributors get
Selected labs and teams receive early evaluation access to the models plus credit in the technical report and release materials. Datasets, benchmarks, RL tasks, and eval rubrics all qualify.
