OpenRouter's Aug 19 post confirms the acquisition; press reports peg it at $7B+, roughly 5x its $1.3B Series B valuation from May. Closing is subject to customary conditions.
Your integration doesn't change today
Official post: "same mission, same name, same product, same roadmap." If you build on OpenRouter today, the API, keys, routing, and billing keep working while the deal closes.
The scale Stripe just bought
OpenRouter fronts 400+ models for 8M users, and press reporting says ~46% of US enterprise token usage now flows through Chinese-origin models. It is no longer optional infrastructure.
Neutrality is the whole question now
OpenRouter's pitch was model-agnostic routing driven by "what's best for you." With payments and model routing under one roof, watch whether ordering, discounts, or throttling start favoring anyone.
