First AI chatbot ruled a search engine
The Commission classified ChatGPT search as a Very Large Online Search Engine — the first AI chatbot to earn the label — after OpenAI reported 159M monthly EU users, far above the 45M threshold. Reddit and Roblox were named Very Large Online Platforms the same day.
What OpenAI owes by December
Within about four months (end of 2026), ChatGPT must run a systemic-risk assessment, submit to annual independent audits, publish a searchable ad library, and open its data to vetted researchers — with fines up to 6% of global turnover. The rules can reach as far as how the product and its recommendations are designed.

Google's gemini-omni-1.1-flash is generally available with scene extension up to 40 seconds, first- and last-frame keyframe control, and 4K upscaling, at roughly $0.10 per second for 720p. A 360p draft tier runs about a third the cost — rough out a full 40-second cut cheap, then upscale the keeper.
