Codex remembers across context windows
With the Astra upgrade, Codex now writes searchable notes across context windows instead of compressing history, so earlier requirements and test results survive a long run. Reportedly needs Codex CLI 0.153.0 or newer.
Live now for every paid ChatGPT tier
Astra began reaching Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise on Sept 4, expanding over the coming days; Pro/Business/Enterprise also get an “Astra Pro” variant. Enterprise ships off by default — an admin has to enable it per workspace.
~2x faster computer use
OpenAI says Astra runs computer-use tasks nearly 2x faster, and a harness optimization sped up the older GPT-5.6 Sol on the same tasks by ~60% — quicker, cheaper agent loops without changing your code.
On the API and AWS — Azure confirmed
Call it as gpt-6-astra at $10/$50 per million (1.05M context, 128K output), with zero-data-retention for eligible customers. Azure Foundry is live; Amazon Bedrock is reported, but sources disagree on whether the listing is up yet.
Why it's gated: the Critical cyber line
Astra is OpenAI's first model to cross the “Critical” cybersecurity threshold — 100% on ExploitBench, and it flagged two zero-days in disclosed software during testing. The public model refuses offensive tasks; vetted defenders apply through Daybreak.
