The new rate: $4 in, $20 out
GPT-5.6 Sol drops from $5/$30 to $4/$20 per million tokens — over 20% off in both directions, live now. On agent workloads that fan out thousands of calls, that's a real line-item cut with zero code changes.
The catch: it reverts Nov 21
The discount is a three-month promo (through Nov 21, 2026) covering pay-as-you-go API, Codex credits, and eligible ChatGPT Work plans; consumer subscriptions are untouched. Don't bake the cheaper rate into a permanent cost model.
It now undercuts Claude Opus 5
At $4/$20, Sol is cheaper than Anthropic's Claude Opus 5 ($5/$25) on both input and output. If you route by price, the cheapest frontier tier just changed hands — at least until the promo ends.
Second 5.6 price move in a month
Sol was pointedly left out of late-July cuts to the Luna and Terra tiers, then reversed within three weeks. Read it as OpenAI chasing Gemini 3.7 Flash and Claude on price — expect more moves, not fewer.
