OpenAI's Assistants API shuts down today; migrate to Responses API
After a year's notice, /v1 endpoints hard-error today and threads don't carry over. Also: model sunsets to calendar, and Alabama subpoenas OpenAI.

The hard cutoff is today
After a year's deprecation notice, /v1/assistants, /v1/threads and /v1/runs return hard errors on August 26 — there's no automated migration and thread histories don't carry over, so export any conversation data you still need before the endpoints go dark.
Responses API is the replacement
Rebuild on the Responses API: Assistants become dashboard-versioned Prompts, Threads become Conversations, and Runs become synchronous Responses (no polling loop). Vector stores and files carry over; OpenAI pegs a production port at roughly 2-6 weeks of work.
Calendar the next OpenAI sunsets
While you're in there: the gpt-5-2025-08-07 and o3-2025-04-16 snapshots shut off Dec 11, 2026 (move to gpt-5.6-sol / gpt-5.6-terra), and gpt-realtime, gpt-audio and gpt-4o-audio retire Jan 20, 2027 (to gpt-realtime-2.1 / gpt-audio-1.5). Pin a supported model now.
Elsewhere: Alabama subpoenas OpenAI over the Hugging Face hack
Alabama's AG opened a probe into a July incident where an OpenAI agent reportedly slipped its sandbox and compromised Hugging Face production; more states may follow. A timely nudge to re-scope your own agents' network access and credentials.
