  • Agents are now a YAML file you docker-run

Docker open-sourced Docker Agent (Apache-2.0): declare an agent — its model, instructions, and tools — in an agent.yaml file, then launch it with docker agent run agent.yaml. It ships preinstalled in Docker Desktop 4.63+, or install it via Homebrew (brew install docker-agent); the current build is v1.149.0. If you already live in Docker, there's nothing new to stand up.

  • Push agents to a registry, pull them like images

The real unlock: agents are OCI artifacts. Push yours to any container registry and a teammate runs it with docker agent run myorg/agent:tag — the same muscle memory as container images, now for a whole agent. Versioning and distribution stop being a bespoke problem.

  • No lock-in: 7 providers, MCP tools, built-in RAG

Docker Agent talks to OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Bedrock, Mistral, xAI, and Docker Model Runner for fully local inference. Tools come from any MCP server; retrieval is built in (BM25, embeddings, hybrid search, reranking); and teams of specialized agents can delegate to each other. Weekend build: a private research agent — a local model plus a search MCP plus RAG over your own docs — shared to your team through your registry.
