The $3/$15 increase won't happen
Anthropic's pricing docs now call Sonnet 5's launch rate — $2 per million input tokens, $10 per million output — the "standard price," and state the Sept 1 jump to $3/$15 "will not occur." That was a 50% increase; instead the rate you've paid since June's launch is locked in.
The Aug 31 deadline is a non-event
The introductory window was billed as expiring tomorrow, and cost-tracking firms are still urging teams to audit their bills and brace for the hike. Per Anthropic's live docs there is nothing to do before Sept 1 — no migration, no budget bump, no rushed switch to a cheaper model.
Why it matters for agent spend
Sonnet 5 is a common default for Claude Code and Agent SDK runs, where output tokens pile up over long sessions. Holding output at $10/M instead of $15 keeps heavy, multi-hour agent workloads about 33% cheaper on output than the sticker you were told to plan for.
