Cursor's $7 India tier ships — Grok in, GPT and Claude out
The first Cursor release since the $60B SpaceX deal is a ₹649/mo India tier — Grok 4.5 and Composer included, frontier GPT and Claude paywalled off.

A $7 Cursor tier, and it's live today
Cursor Start launched today at ₹649/month (~$7), India-only, billed in INR via UPI or card — a fifth of the $20 Pro plan and the cheapest paid Cursor yet. You get higher limits than the free tier, always-on cloud agents, the iOS app, and full MCP, plugins, hooks, and skills support.
The catch: no GPT, no Claude — you get Grok
Start ships Grok 4.5 and Cursor's own Composer, but locks out frontier OpenAI and Anthropic models, plus Bugbot, Auto Mode, Automations, and the Cursor SDK. If your workflow leans on Claude or GPT for the hard tasks, this tier won't cover it — that stays a Pro ($20) feature.
Why Grok is the default: the $60B SpaceX deal
It's Cursor's first pricing move since SpaceX agreed to buy parent Anysphere for $60B all-stock (announced June 16, closing Q3). Grok is xAI's model — so a budget tier that routes new users to Grok over GPT and Claude reads as the first product sign of that alignment.
What it signals for you, wherever you are
Localized, model-tiered pricing is now the template: cheap regional plans built on in-house or Grok models, with GPT and Claude access as the premium upsell. If you depend on one specific frontier model inside Cursor, watch which plan keeps it — the split is starting at the bottom.
