One instructions file now drives Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Copilot, Jules, Aider, Zed, Windsurf and Devin — 30+ agents read AGENTS.md. Write your build steps, conventions and gotchas once instead of keeping a separate rules file per tool.
Claude Code is the holdout — patch it in one line
As of August 2026 Claude Code still loads CLAUDE.md, not AGENTS.md, and the demand is back on Hacker News' front page (240+ points). Bridge it now: make a CLAUDE.md whose first line is @AGENTS.md, or run /init in a repo that already has one and Claude Code folds it in.
OpenAI ships a prompt-caching dashboard
New on the API platform (Aug 20): watch your cache-hit rate over time, cache-reads per write, and the cache-read / write / uncached token split. Caching is automatic and takes 50% off cached input tokens on prompts over ~1,024 tokens — now you can prove yours are actually hitting.
